Continuing from my match stick illustration I wanted to try creating a more clean digital piece using Photoshop. In this illustration I took my original drawing of the match stick and redrew the image using the pen tool in Photoshop to create a more sharp and edgy design. I was also inspired by the previous book covers I had researched and wanted to incorporate some sort of red colour/streak, which I applied underneath the match stick. I wasn't too sure on where to place to streak but found it almost looked like the side of the match box in which you ignite the match when placed opposite to the flame. I liked the theme of captioning my illustrations their own titles such as 'The Match' and placed the caption along the side of the match stick in a small/thin font because I didn't want it to become too distracting. To create more interest and texture I used a rough paper surface onto the match and blended it using different blending overlays. When coming up with a specific design I drew a few different designs to see which composition I like best. I ultimately decided to stick with the centre drawing to take into Photoshop to create a digital design.
