For our first task we were instructed to create a table top tableau which would become a 3D narrative for our story. Reading the story we all agreed it had an enchanting atmosphere and playful quality, we wanted to create something which reflected this and felt immersive like the description of the book. We decided to create a diorama of the town Milk Wood using card and drawing various town houses, shops and streets onto trips of white card. These were to be slotted into black card which would become it's outer walls.

Originally We wanted the diorama to have dreams incorporated somehow by hanging them above the house, since dreams are frequently described in the story. However, this turned out to be to complicated and would have taken too much time so we decided to simplify the diorama and just depict a small village. Our group agreed the diorama would be best painted/coloured in the same media, so we decided on watercolour for its vibrancy and simplicity to work with.
Playing With Lighting

Once we had finished the diorama we played around with lighting using professional studio lights. Since the story is centred around one day in a small village starting from morning and ending at night we wanted to try and depict this using different angles of light. We found this worked quite effectively from some angles but also sometimes distracted the main illustrations at other angles.
