Iris Apfel is an interior designer and business woman who set up the the incredibly successful company Old World Weavers with her husband in 1950. She was born August 29th 1921 in Astoria, Queens, New York and was the only child of Samuel Barrel, An owner of a glass and mirror business. Apfel worked for various people as a young woman including Elinor Johnson who was an interior designer, as well as, Robert Goodman an illustrator. During her earlier work she was also commissioned by nine presidents to do multiple restoration projects at the White House.
